For really old computers, slapping a lightweight -nix variant onto it can very easily revitalize them and bring new life and productivity to the machine.

Video cards and RAM are relatively cheaper these days, and purchasing one and slotting it into a PCI slot is a very simple matter. Further, as those parts are customized to what the user wants, there's no issue of accidentally buying more than what one may need. I myself do this at times when assembling computers or modifying off lease computers, as it's a far cheaper option that gets far better results. All in all, a great choice in my humble opinion.
